A Brides Guide To A Beautiful Wedding Dress On A Budget
Weddings are a wonderful event where two people promise their love to one another for the rest of their lives- but people are still looking at the bride in one of the most important (and expensive!) dresses she will ever wear! There are many ways for you, the bride, to save money on a bridal gown while still loving the dress the dress you wear down the aisle.
Check Craigslist and Ebay
A quick search on Craigslist or Ebay brings up many listings for wedding gowns for sale. Some dresses have never been worn (cancelled engagement, or the bride found a new dress), and even the dresses that have been worn have only been used for one day! You can save a huge amount of money by looking into a dress that has been owned by someone else. There are often many designer dressess being sold on these sites for a fraction of their retail cost.
Buy a Sample
When you are at the bridal boutique you may be overwhelmed after trying on tons of dresses. Pay attention to the price tags- some of the dresses have greatly reduced prices due to the fact that they are a sample gown. A sample gown is the dress that is tried on when brides visit the boutique. If a sample gown has no obvious defects it can be a great buy. It may cost you a little bit of money to have it dry cleaned or altered, but you can save hundreds of dollars over ordering a new gown (which will probably also have to be altered).
Look into charity sites that sell wedding gowns
More and more brides are choosing to donate their wedding gowns to charity after their wedding day. This act allows you to buy a beautiful wedding gown at a huge discount while helping fund a charitable organization. Brides Against Breast Cancer (www.bridesagainstbreastcancer.org) is a wonderful charity that helps brides find their perfect dress while also using the funds earned to make a difference in the lives of those that suffer from breast cancer. Many dresses are donated by brides whose weddings have passed, but more than 50% of the gowns are brand new and donated by designers and bridal retailers.
Consider a dress made for you in China
You may not know that many dresses with high price tags are not made in America. Most bridal dresses are made in China and then sent to American bridal shops. The cost of making the dress in China can be 5 to 10 times cheaper (or even more) before the bridal shop mark-up. Buying a dress made for you in China can be risky, so do lots of research, but the rewards can be great! I personally had my wedding dress made in China after trying on many beautiful gowns, but finding the prices too high for one day of use. My dress was made for my exact measurements, and it fit perfectly. I loved my wedding gown, and I received many compliments.
Good luck to all brides looking for a gown on a budget- there are many resources! I hope you all find gems while saving dollars.
